久しぶりの更新になってしまいました。

毎年恒例の台湾羊肉コンテストの写真をお届けします。

今年は、ゲストとして参加しました。

↑2008年の世界大会開催について書かれています。

今年のチャンピオンです。

羊肉を24分で2523グラム食べました。

（世界記録5500ｇ）

胃の許容量は、わりとありそうだったので、来年が楽しみです。

今年の最高賞金100万元（日本円で約350万）です。

現金ってのが驚きです。

そして、来年は、今年以上の規模になりそうです。

そのために、いくつかの協力を打診されました。

（フードファイターとしての）時間には限りがありますので、その中で、自分にしかできない事を依頼されると、感謝とやりがいを感じます。

慎重に考えれば、かわりがきかない事ってとても少ないんですよね（汗）




取材で知り合った日本人

住みなれた祖国を離れる不安、異文化への戸惑い。

初めは、言葉も思うように通じなかったはずです。

その中で、女性がたった一人で生きていくのは、とても勇気のいる事です。

きっと、辛い経験もたくさんあったんだろうな。

たくさんの障害を乗り越えて、彼女達がここにいるんだなと思い、とても感銘を受けました。

ネイティブではない彼女達が、テレビ番組の司会までまかされるほど頑張っています。

CM、ドラマ、歌など、今では、みんな台湾の文化に溶け込んでいて、日本と台湾を結ぶ架け橋となる欠かせない存在です。

取材後に、たくさんの仲間が集まって、楽しい時間を過ごしました。

海外で、互いに助け合ってきたからなのか、とても素敵なつながりを感じさせるんです。

その輪に混ぜてもらっていると、不思議な感じがして、いつもとは違う時間の中にいるようでした。

This year’s champion.

He ate 2523 grams in the 24 minutes allowed.
(The world record is 5500 grams.)
He seems to have a significant stomach capacity, so I’m looking forward to seeing how he develops for next year.

The prize money for the winner this year was 1 million Taiwan New Dollars (about 30,000 USD) – cash!!

Next year the contest is expected to grow further, and I have been asked about being involved on a number of levels. As a time is limited (in a competitive eater’s career, I mean) I feel really grateful and fulfilled when there are offers of roles and jobs that only I can do. If I really think about it, there are not that many things that only I can do.

Leaving one’s home country filled with uncertainty and fears of culture shock and worse… That’s what these girls must have been through. In the beginning they surely couldn’t have communicated freely either.
For a young woman to take on a challenge like this on her own must take quite some courage. And no doubt some of their experiences were difficult ones. After imagining the many obstacles these girls must have overcome to be where they are, I found they left quite an impression on me. Now accepting jobs as TV show hosts and such, in a language that is not their mother tongue, they are obviously dedicated to their work. Working in everything from TV commercials and dramas to songs, they are now established as elements of Taiwan culture, and as crucial connections between Taiwan and Japan.

After the interviews and filming was over quite a group gathered, and we had an enjoyable time together. Perhaps because these people have been supporting each other in what is a foreign country to all of them, I felt they had a really great connection going on between them.

Being welcomed into their circle for a few hours gave me a bizarre feeling like I had was experiencing a world where time flows differently.
